State Energy Efficiency Index (SEEI) 2021-22

Recently in News: Union Minister of Power and New & Renewable Energy, Shri R. K. Singh released the report of State Energy Efficiency Index (SEEI) 2021-22. 

About Index: The index developed by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), a statutory body under the Ministry of Power, in association with Alliance for an Energy-Efficient Economy (AEEE), assesses, the annual progress of states and UTs in energy efficiency implementation, for FY 2020-21 and 2021-22. 

Based on the progress and accomplishments of states in energy efficiency implementation, they have been classified into four categories: Front Runner, Achiever, Contender, and Aspirant.

Indicators: 50 indicators aligned with national priorities.
Key Findings: 
  •  Front Runner (> 60 Points): Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Rajasthan and Telangana.
  • Achiever (50-60 Points)   : Assam, Haryana, Maharashtra, and Punjab - are in the Achiever category.
  • Top-Top-performing states in their respective state groups: Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Assam and Chandigarh.
  • Most improvement since the last index: Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
The Director General of BEE said, "India is determined to achieve the NDC targets and move to a net zero economy by 2070. This requires collaboration between the central and state governments, judicious resource allocation, policy alignment, and regular progress monitoring. SEEI is tracking progress in managing the state and Indian energy footprint and advancing energy efficiency policies and programmes at the state and local levels."
