Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY)

  Union Minister for Rural Development Shri. Giriraj Singh has launched a unique initiative called "Capitative Employer" under Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY). The purpose of this program is to provide training and employment opportunities for rural poor youth through 19 captive employers who will offer training in a variety of sectors, such as hospitality, textiles, retail, and telecommunications. The MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) signed between MoRD and Capitative Employers to train and provide jobs to over 31,000 rural youth.

About Scheme

  1. The Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) was launched on the 25th of September 2014. It is a nationwide placement-linked skill-training program funded by the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD), Government of India (GoI).
  2. DDU-GKY uniquely focuses on rural youth ages 15 to 35 from poor families. More than 180 million, or 69%, of the nation's young people between the ages of 18 and 34 live in rural areas. Of these, about 55 million are youth from poor families who have no or marginal employment, the lowest rung of the pyramid.
  3. It is an outcome-driven program that guarantees placements for at least 70% of it trainees. Benefits to candidates include free training, free uniform, free course material, free room and board for programs with boarding, cost reimbursement for programs without boarding, monthly salary increments after internship for 2-6 months depending on the location of the internship, and placement of at least 70% of all trainees with a minimum salary of Rs. 6,000/- per month (as a cost to the company).
  4. Currently, the program is being implemented in 27 States and 4 UTs, with an emphasis on placements for rural poor youth . Since inception, 14.08 lakh candidates have been trained and 8.39 lakh placed.
